De Colores Learning Center offers the following programs:
The age breakdowns are based on a child’s age as of September 30 of a given year and children transition from one program to another in the fall of each year.
All programs at De Colores Learning Center are based in a holistic approach to education and development in a Spanish immersion setting. Holistic learning is centered on the premise that each person finds identity, meaning, and purpose in life through connections to the community, to the natural world, and to humanitarian values such as compassion and peace. Holistic learning forms the basis of the teachings of Rudolf Steiner, Maria Montessori, John Dewey and the Reggio Emilio approach to education.
De Colores places special emphasis on the community aspect in holistic education. The holistic classroom is often seen as a community, which is within the larger community of the school, which is within the larger community of the village, town, or city, and which is, by extension, within the larger community of humanity.
The daily routine at the De Colores Toddler program is complemented by a full range of extracurricular experiences including: yoga, music, garden/nature studies, cooking, art, and visits to the Takoma Park Public Library.
